disappeared.

Pandora could be heard, but not seen.
She had vanished in the dark abyss of the
tree, if it was a tree. Her bellows formed
into echoes that travelled up and out of the
secret panel. |

Falcon looked a little warily at the gaping hole and darkness. He looked back at the forest and then heard a soft snap. That convinced him enough to dart straight into the hole after the feminine feline. He followed the sounds of her voice through the strange passageway and felt his whiskers brush the side of tunnel. If it were a tunnel at all considering the tree may or may not be a tree.

Pandora noticed Falcon approaching
behind her. You could hear a small
grinding noise above, a sign that
the panel was closing. As soon as the
grinding stopped lights began to
come on one by one in a row, slowly
lighting up the tunnel.
"This is the safe haven, welcome."
Pandora continued through the narrow
tunnel, ahead was a fork. 3 passages
they could take. |

Falcon blinked as the lights began to click on one by one. His eyes took moments to adjust to the now bright tunnel. He noticed he had actually caught up to Pandora and she was only a few mouse-lengths away. He picked up pace and stopped just behind her as they reached the fork. "Safe haven? "he meowed at first and then noticed the three tunnels. "Which one? "He was asking questions as to not get nervous or freak out.

"Yes, the Safe Haven. This is where
cats stay until the sun rises, when it
is safe to venture in and out of the
Forest of Paranoia, better known in the
daylight as the 'Calm' Forest."
What an untruthful name! Calm Forest,
what only the passerby called it. The
ones who didn't stay for the dark.
To answer the tom's second query,
Pandora started to pad down the
middle tunnel. |

Falcon nodded as she talked. This was to show that he understood what she was telling him. The way she emphasized calm told him that the forest wasn't really calm at night. He could tell considering the trees and shadows seemed to want to gobble a cat up if the cat looked at it wrong. He shivered at that thought and then followed Pandora deeper into the Safe Haven.

As they padded down the spooky
halls she wondered what her life
would be like if she left the forest.
But it could never be, she could
never abandon the ones
in need, like Falcon. |

Falcon kept a quick pace as to stay close to Pandora. He was a rather scared cat and he didn't mean to stay so close, but he did. It was an old habit that still kept up with him. After some bad trauma as a kit it was hard for him to break his habits of closeness and always being afraid. The tom did feel a lot safer in the place though so he wasn't real scared right then. It was thanks to Pandora he wasn't running for his life afraid of some thing in the forest.

Pandora grew steadily uncomfortable
as Falcon's breath ran across her neck.
She twitched her ears in discomfort, he
was trailing too close. Luckily you are
almost there, you can see a warm yellow
glow at the end of the tunnel. |

Falcon happened to notice Pandora's ears twitching and could smell the faint fragrance of discomfort coming from her. He backed off a little as he knew he had clung to close to her. "Uh..... Sorry.... "he meowed, sheepishly. As they continued he began to notice the glow of yellow light close to the end of the tunnel. Safety? He thought.

She doesn't reply to Falcon, instead
she just rushes to the end of the tunnel
and disappears in the blinding light. |

are strung on the ceiling and
cats are teeming all around.
They all look tough and mature,
having spent all their lives in the
Forest of Paranoia.
"I brought a newcomer."
All the cats gathered shake their
heads in shame. |

Falcon instantly felt uncomfortable at the sight of so many cats giving disapproving looks and shakes of their heads. I'm unwanted here.... he thought as he looked at the gathered cats. He's worries and fears started to surface and bombard him. He tried to choke them down though and try not to do anything stupid.

A surly gray tom, named
Tart, calls out from the back
of the crowd.
"Falcon."
Pandora states his name loudly
and clearly so the cloud of cats
could hear.
