HISTORY
sweet was a kittypet living in a tenth story apartment. she had a mate who abused her daily and a two-leg who was gone all day. her mate dragon was a cruel tom who blamed her for everything. their first litter had two stillborns due to dragon's abusing her during pregnancy. only one kit survived. dragon blamed sweet for the stillborns and continued to bully her and the tom-kit, manticore. sweet could no longer watch manticore grow up under these conditions. as manny grew older she prepared to make their escape.
sweet and manticore escaped out the window and balanced on the narrow ledge above the street. as they inched away from the window, dragon awoke and followed them onto the ledge, yowling with anger. there was going to be a fight. sweet twisted around to bat at dragon but she lost her balance. she pulled dragon down with her and together they tumbled down to their deaths.
manticore was heartbroken but continued on, knowing his mother wouldn't want him to give up. the tom remembered the stories sweet used to tell him of clans and her ambition to form her own. manny gathered kittypets and loners living in two-leg place to form a rooftop clan. the new leader then named the clan sweetclan in honor of his mother.
TERRITORY
manticore didn't go far from where his mother and father died. the orphan claimed the tops of the very skyscraper of where many of his clanmates, including him, used to live. sweetclan soon grew into their new territory, leaping from building to building. the top floor of a single abandoned skyscraper makes up their camp. they use fire escapes to climb down in through the broken window. the captain jumps to the top of an office chair to address the clan. they hunt pigeons and other city birds who alight atop their rooftop territory.
BELIEFS
sweetclan has no real religion. as it was formed out of kittypets, few members have any belief in starclan. instead, they belief in certain virtues like loyalty, bravery, and trust.
TRADITION
sweetclan has a rich variety of traditions. one of these is marriage. because the fatality rate is high when the main way of moving around is jumping from skyscraper to skyscraper, mating is no sign of dedication or love. instead cats get married to show devotion. the marriage ceremony is a show of trust. the couple takes turns trusting their mate to lead them around a high skyscraper while they keep their eyes closed. one mistake on their mate's behalf and they plummet it their deaths.
the second main tradition is the leaping. when trainees are ready to become soldiers, they prove their bravery and loyalty by jumping from one skyscraper to another. it is a challenging yet makeable leap. those who back out are exiled. the trainees who make the jump become soldiers. if a trainee dies trying to make the jump, it is considered one of the most honorable deaths.
