he large white tom waited for the ambassador outside the apprentice den, tail twitching with excitement. no matter what, it always made him happy to see an apprentice on their journey to become a warrior.

saplingpaw squeezed out of the burrow that entitled the apprentice den, and out into the open air. a warm breeze ruffled her fur and she couldn't help but smile. today was the day she would be assessed. the cream she-cat padded over to where spectrumstar was waiting, dipping her head in greeting.

"then let's go." he began walking toward the forest. he turned to face her once they arrived. "go and hunt, and I will be watching out of sight. remember, you may not talk to me or anything during the assessment."

sap nearly rolled her eyes. she was 11 moons old, and he was talking to her as if she didn't know how the assessors did their job. "i don't think that will be a problem, spectrumstar." she said, before trotting off and out of sight. she came to a somewhat open clearing, where the sun beamed down through the trees. she dropped into a crouch, and sniffed the air. it had been awhile since she'd hunted underneath the trees. she hated hunting under trees. it made her feel suffocated. why did spectrumstar bring her here anyways? assessing a cat on the moor wasn't so hard. tall grasses provide cover, and with sapling's creamy pelt, she could camouflage herself within, so her prey never knew she was there. but, he must of insisted she hunt here, in the forest.

spectrumstar arrived, and slipped into the bushes. he kept himself faceing the wind so his scent wouldn't travel down to her. he wanted to test the apprentice in their patch of forest, and on the moor to see how she would do in different situations.

[ARGH. I had an entire post written and now it's gone! *steaming with anger* i'm soooooooo p*ssed] at the sound of tiny paws pattering on the earth, the creamy she-cat dropped to a lower crouch. she pulled herself across the ground, gliding over to a tree. she sniffed the air and then padded on, rounding the corner of the trunk. she disappeared into the bushes and prepared herself for the pounce. a couple moments later she reappeared, the small limp body of a mouse in her jaws. sap glanced around before padding over to a shady spot beneath the tree. she dropped her prey on the ground and kicked leaves and sand over it before continuing on with her hunt. [open for spectrum to make notes or whatever. this is all i can manage right now.]

the she-cat prowled through the undergrowth until she came out into the open again. relief poured over her. the she-cat scented the air. she smiled. she was upwind so when the wind blew, it carried the scent of rabbit toward her. her prey wouldn't even know she was there! stalking forward, she kept extremely silent, and close to the ground, disguising herself from the prey. as she came up the hill, the rabbit's ears perked up and it turned a little bit. narrowing her eyes, the creamy she-cat flew down the hill and after the prey, just as it was hopping away. before it could get away, saplingpaw lunged forward and grabbed it's neck, pulling it back with her as she slowed to a halt. she nipped it quickly and looked up at the sky, silently thanking starclan for this catch. as sap plucked the prey off the ground, she turned and headed back into the forest, to put this with her previous catch.

sap decided that for spectrum, she would stay in the forest, just for this assessment. besides, nighty would have her get two more catches, and then she would expect to hear the results. saplingpaw crept around a bush quietly, before finally disappearing inside. she swiftly killed a mouse there, and then came out and dropped it on her small pile. she then decided to use a technique she had been working on for awhile. swiftly, the lean she-cat climbed up a tree and perched herself on a branch not too far from the ground, but at least a couple tail-lengths high. she stalked across it to where a bird sat and before she could even approach it, it let out an alarm call and flew a tiny bit away. then, the creamy she-cat flew off the branch and gripped the bird's wing in her claws, lunging forward to give it the death blow. both sap and the bird tumbled onto the ground a bit messily, but the she-cat was proud of her kill. she carried it back to her pile of prey, wondering where spectrumstar was.
[can that be the end of the assessment?]

the creamy she-cat then carried all four catches in her jaws the best she could as she looked for spectrumstar. two mice, a rabbit and a hare.
