The Governance
Governance - government; exercise of authority; control.
Who are The Governance?
History
Long before the founding of the four main clans, three cats met in an old twoleg alleyway. A tom and two she-cats, Night, Stone, and Ara. The three of them had been rouges, living on the street for their entire lives, and at their meeting, finally decided it was time for change. So the three of them formed a group. They divided their leadership into two parts, or branches, as they later called them. There was the military branch, lead by Stone, and the main branch which was lead by both Night and Ara. They invited cats they had known from their time living in the streets, and soon the trio were leaders of a small community.
After about a year, there were quite a few members of their group, but they still hadn't decided on a name. However, word of their growing numbers had spread, and one night a group of rouges who thought that the three leaders would try to take their territory attacked, and, though they fought hard, Stone Ara and Night were driven from their home on the edge of the forest, and were forced deeper into the woods to escape. Having suffured several casualties and injuries, they traveled for a while, searching for a good home. After almost a moon of moving through the forest, going from one shelter to the next, they finally found the perfect place. Overgrown by the forest around it, they found an old house sitting in the midst of the thick trees. After searching the house, they found it occupied by a loner named Zach who, after speaking to the three leaders, welcomed the cats into his home. As soon as they moved in, Zach began going around to look at all the sick and injured cats, applying herbs to their wounds and healing them. Seeing this, Ara spoke to him about it, and he explained that he knew the properties of certain herbs and how to use them to heal others. Thinking this was a very useful skill, she spoke to the other leaders, who agreed to invite Zach to join. After some thought he agreed, and joined there ranks. Until now the group hadn't been to organized, everyone there was simply a member, only some of which, those in the military branch, were trained fighters, and they had no ranks except for that of leader. So, after some planning between the leaders, with input from trusted cats, they began to form a more civilized way of life. They created a rank for Zach, which was called doctor, and over time added ranks for their planned successors, and others to match their member's specialties. They also gave themselves a name, 'The Governance', as they saw themselves as the governors of the land around them.
Time passed, and things were peaceful, until their forest was intruded. Word spread that four cats, cats by the name of Wind, Thunder, River, and Shadow had entered the forest, and were gathering cats of their own. Clans they called them, and many cats came to the four, seeking a place to live. Many member of The Governance were angry, before any cat who wished to have protection and live in the forest came to them, now no one even noticed them! Some wished to launch an attack of the four clans, but after much reasoning, and some arguing, the leaders decided it would be best to keep to themselves. However, as the clans grew, a brilliant idea struck. Another branch was formed, lead by Ara, which trained spies to infiltrate the camps of the clans and learn as much information as they could. Soon The Governance knew much, and were able to make bargains with smaller groups, as well as the clans themselves every once in a while. Finally however, the leaders grew old, and it was time for their successors to take over. One by one they passed to the realm of the dead, and new leadership took over. Changes have been made to The Governance since Night, Stone, and Ara's time, but it remains similar to what it once was, trading information and learning the secrets of those around them. Territory
The home of The Governance before it became slightly more overgrown, younger trees close in the yard and the path is grown over with grass.
The Governance live in an old abandoned house, that used to be on a twoleg plantation in colonial times. The house is still in good condition, as is it was preserved by twolegs until the organization lost funding. There are quite a few rooms, and there are different rooms for different ranks. Trainees all share a room, as well as citizens and soldiers. The lieutenant and the deputies also share a room, and the three leaders get a room that is divided into three sections. The Doctor's room is down stairs where the kitchen used to be, as there are still several remaining cabinets, used to store herbs. The doctor themself sleeps in a small room next door, where he or she can easily get to their herb store and check on or treat patients who need attention during the night.
Surrounding the house is a large forest, which is actually shared with the main clans, but the clans don't know about The Governance, or where they live at any rate, not having a name tor location o go off of, only a place where they can request information. A large stream runs not far from the house, passing right by, on the edge of the trees. Most of the old property is forest, but some of the front yard still remains, making a perfect space for training and socializing. However, if the weather outside is bad, cats can socialize inside, where they use the parlor as sort of a common room.
The Governance store their food in a closet, where it can be at least hidden from sight if need be. Bedding and other supplies are kept in the cellar, which is also the entrance to the dungeon. The dungeon is a part of the basement, attached to the cellar, and seperated from it by a thick, iron rimmed door, the door is usually propped open as it is such a pain to open again, though it is typically closed during any event so that any prisoners the dungeon contains cannot be heard and disturb the goings on. However, after their first few days, some up to a week, prisoners are typically quiet. The Governance isn't particularly mean or rude to their prisoners unless they have a good reason, which no one usually has. Though the spaces in which prisoners live isn't the best, at least they aren't treated to badly. If you read this put 'Nightlight' in your form.
