Rainbowgleam's eyes flicked away from Rosepaw and focused on the two toms.

barracudafun shrugged. he enjoyed hunting in the river, however he didn't care for it much when there was a group of cats in the same area as him, because not only would they scare the fish away, but they would become a distraction for him and his techniques. rainbowgleam, on the other paw, was an exception.

Rainbowgleam sighed and began padding off to a random area of the territory. She stopped when they came to a long stream, twisting off into the distance. About one tail length from either side of the water, the forest began. She settled herself at the edge of the stream, a few tail lengths away from the rest of the patrol. She did it so casually that it wasn't like she was trying to get away, but more like saying that they didn't have to stay with her, but they could.

bear did not take this offer. he instead rejected it as he sat down beside rainbow. he wanted to say something, but he didn't. he just sat there and stared at the water silently.

Rainbowgleam lifted her eyes from the patterns of the water for a moment, not moving her head as she glanced at him. She smiled briefly before a serious expression formed on her face. She stared deep into the water, past the fish, past the fluttering insects. She glared emotionlessly at the bottom of the stream, at the little specks of dirt and the small, smooth stones.

the tom waited. and waited. and then his paws flung into the water and something silver flashed as he scooped up a shiny fish out of the water. he plopped it onto the ground beside him and then let the water settle as he stared into it, not making a single movement.
