regalstar woke up rather late in the day, too late for morning announcements and patrols. she'd been up the night before on a late patrol alone, checking the borders. the queen had been acting rather strange lately, going out alone at night and sleeping most of the day away. she'd also been seen quite a few times on the border, sniffing around. her clanmates were already beginning to worry for her, and grow very curious in her behaviors. and only today could get worse. the queen stood up in her bed and stretched, parting her jaws in a yawn. only to be startled seeing paws not of her own, and to hear a slight growl in her tone. alarmed, regalstar ran across the floor and towards the puddle in the corner. one look into the water and out came a howl. her muzzle was more rounded and pointy. her fur was no longer tabby, but white with gray and brownish colors along her back. her tail was no longer long and skinny, but now a bit shorter and more cushioned. and her height changed too, for she was now at least eighty centimeters tall. much taller than a cat. regalstar had gained a new power. a power involving shape-shifting, or possessing multiple bodies. she'd somehow possessed a gray wolf's body. and here she was standing in a cat monarchy, as a gray wolf. how would she explain this to her clan? fearful of their reactions, she decided to stay inside of her den until nightfall. unless of course, someone came to her den.

the queen hated being cooped up inside of her chambers, especially when she had nothing to do. she decided to go to her window and see if anything entertaining was going on. the afternoon/morning patrols should be coming in soon. the she-wolf noticed marigoldpool padding about in camp looking awfully bored, and wondered why she hadn't been on a patrol. she shrugged it off and continued to observe.

"Heyyyyyyyyyy, Regalstar!" Crystal chirped, trotting cluelessly into her adopted mother's den.

suddenly her ears shot up in alarm and the she-wolf turned to see her daughter trotting in. for a moment, fear sparked in her eyes. oh no! what would she do?! regalstar felt like she was going limp. her usually optimistic green eyes were now darkened with fright. her daughter wouldn't recognize her at all.

Crystal froze as she saw the wolf where her mother should have been. "Regalstar?!" she mewed softly, panic creeping into her voice as it got higher.

Crystal's jaw dropped. Honestly, she hadn't really known wolves could talk. Being the naive kit she was, her eyes widened and she said "how do you know my name?" rather than running away.

"because it's me, regalstar. s-somehow i changed bodies over night." the queen said, surprised at how brave her daughter was, whereas she was a bit fearful.

She nodded understandingly, still grinning. Her mother was a wolf. How cool was that?

the queen was still in shock at how well her daughter was reacting to this. so far she hadn't run off, and she actually believed her. perhaps some of her clanmates would be the same way? she smiled at crystal. "do you think our clanmates would try to attack me if i walked outside?"

Had Flame been slightly worried, because he hadn't seen Regalstar at all this morning? Psh, no. Why would he worry? Ok. He was worried. The tom trotted toward Regalstar's quarters, attempting to quickly mask his concerned expression as he came close to her room. "Regalstar?" He called out, moving toward the entrance of her den. He scented Crystal, his daughter, and guessed she must already be in the room. Moving forward, he was already inside when he realized. The head knight jumped, staring at the wolf in a mix of confused emotions. Where was Regalstar?! Suddenly a thought entered his mind. Had this wolf taken her? "Where's Regalstar?" The tom growled, wrapping his fluffy red-orange tail around his daughter protectively.

the she-wolf's dark gaze quickly turned onto flame and softened once she saw him. "flame, i'm here. it's me." said the queen softly. "i've somehow changed bodies over night." by now, not a hint of fear was in her voice or in her eyes. she was completely calm and soothed by the fact that flame was here. he was her most trusted clanmate and she knew he wouldn't do anything vital without explanation.
