The sickly stench of green cough hung on the air like a putrid cloud of illness. Everestsnow leaped to the High Rock. The former deputy stomach churned with fear and sorrow. The grey tom cleared his throat. "SkyClan, gather!" he called at the top of his lungs. This was no time for tradition. Everestsnow had dire news to share.

a white she-cat with light silver tabby marking padded over, her aqua eyes glistening with interest. what was going on? had something happened? with a multitude of questions eizzing through her mind, the young femme gracefully took a seat in front of the deputy. she narrowed her eyes, sensing that something was worrying her deputy. she directed her gaze upon Everestsnow, curious as to what he was about to share.

Catching on to the tone of his leader's words, a large dark tabby tom instantly approached. It appeared that he was the first one there. Direwolf stared up at Everestsnow, wondering why he was holding the meeting instead of (insert leader's name here), but remained silent nonetheless. He was not one to voice his thoughts not opinions, although he was anxious to find out what was the cause of this anxiety.

Everestsnow watched gravely as his Clan gathered about him. "Saffronstar is dead," he proclaimed harshly, not sugar-coating it like the grim for which the dark grey tom was named. "Green-cough took her last life. I shall leave tomorrow for the Moonpool. You are all dismissed," Everestsnow turned and padded away into his den, too tired and depressed to care for his Clan. Soon the rough tom would be back on his feet but he needed a little time to mourn his leader's passing.

Dire blinked in shock. Saffronstar was dead? "We will mourn Saffronstar's death, but I trust you will be a great leader, Evereststar."

Everest's ear flicked in recognition but he did not say anything. The grey tom was brooding deep in his den. He didn't want power, he wanted Saffronstar!

snowpaw's aqua hued oculars widened with shock. she stared, slack-jawed at Everestsnow- soon to be Evereststar. she forced herself to hut her gaping mouth, and she dipped her head in grief. saffronstar was dead? but, how could that be? she let out a long sigh, and shook her head; saffronstar was a noble leader, and will be mourned for sure. but everestsnow would make skyclan rise up from the ashes of sickness, and lead them skyward to glory. but snowpaw felt horrible on the inside; she felt like she should have done something. if only she knew the herbs better. then, she could have helped saffronstar.

She dipped her head. Saffronstar was a great loss for the clan, and she knew that many clanmates would mourn.
