Rosepaw padded up to her mentor, ready. "What are we doing today?" She asked eagerly.

"Well," she mewed, "we'll start with fighting. Follow me." She led her apprentice over towards the river, stopping just beside it. "Attack me," she said simply, seating herself neatly a few tail lengths from the water.

Rosepaw slowly circled Rainbowgleam. Fighting had never been her strong suit... she leaped at Rainbowgleam, fainting a blow to her mentor's face with a sheathed claw and then ducked underneath her, trying to unbalance Rainbowgleam.

Rainbowgleam quickly leaped away from her apprentice. "Good!" she praised. Honestly, she was surprised she made it out quick enough before Rosepaw tripped her. But then again, she was faster than most other warriors. But her apprentice was just as fast. "Now I'll attack you," she said, a mischeivous shine in her eyes. Quickly, Rainbowgleam darted towards her apprentice, pinning her down with sheathed claws before she even realized what happened. "Now if I were an enemy, what would you do to get me off?" she asked.

Rosepaw lay on her back, thinking. Suddenly she twisted and rolled to the side, hoping to throw her mentor off of her.

Rainbowgleam allowed herself to be thrown off. "Very good," she mewed, tugging at a leaf in her pekt. Flicking it to the floor, she said, "another good way to get your opponent off is to play dead. They'll losen their grip, and that's when you push them off. A good way to push them off is to shove as hard as you can with your hind legs."

Rosepaw nodded in understanding, taking in every word Rainbowgleam said.

Rainbowgleam smiled. Her apprentice was a great listener. "Now, let's work on fighting in the water." She gracefully waded into the water, trying to ignore the icy cold water soaking her belly fur.

Rosepaw took a flying leap into the water, creating a huge splash and a wave. She surfaced and turned to face Rainbowgleam.

Rosepaw paddled toward Rainbowgleam. When she was fairly close, she ducked underwater and swam to her mentor. Rosepaw burst out of the water, splashing everything as she aimed to land on Rainbowgleam to pull her underwater.

Rainbowgleam dodged just in time. She would have to get a lot faster if she wanted to be able to avoid all these attacks. "Good," she mewed, nodding, "splashing can be good and bad. It provides you with a mask, but it also makes a lot of noise. A good way to stay hidden and silent is to stay underwater." She enjoyed working with such a talented young cat. Sometimes she had to work really hard to think of some advice. Rosepaw was a natural! "Now," she mewed, "try to attack me while staying underwater." She stood towards the middle of the river, the water just skimming the tip of her chin. She stared straight ahead, pretending be an unsuspecting enemy.

Rosepaw took a deep breath and dove into the water, not making a sound. She swam silently up to Rainbowgleam and aimed to grab her and pull her under the calm surface of the water.
